3 General description
3.1 Test procedure
This test procedure is conducted in accordance with IEC 60068-2-17, test Of: immersion. The specimen is submitted to a specified pressure by immersion in a water tank at a specified depth or in a high-pressure water chamber. After conditioning, the specimen is examined for penetrated water and checked for possible changes of characteristics.
3.2 Pre.condltlonlng
Specimens shall be configured according to the relevant specification and prepared for attenuation measurements according to IEC 61300-3-3.
Pre-conditioning of the specimen shall be 2 Ii under normal atmospheric conditions described in lEG 61300-1,
3.3 InitIal measurements
The closures shall be visually inspected and optically measured as well as mechanically checked. All closure sealing features shall be checked to as certain that they have been mounted correctly.
3.4 CondItioning
The specimens shall be placed in the position as prescribed in the relevent specification and shall be completely immersed either in a water tank at a specified depth or in a pressure water chamber.
The specimens shall be subjected to 5 m of the head of water or 48,9 kPa as required.
When a tank is used, the specified head of water shall be measured above the highest point of the specimen.
When a pressure water chamber is used, the water pressure shall be adjusted to 48,9 kPa,
The specimen shall be conditioned for 7 days. During the conditioning the difference between the water and the specimen shall not be greater than 5 °C.
The temperatures of the specimen and of the wafer shall be between 15 C and 35 °C.
3.5 Recovery
The closures shall be dried at standard atmospheric conditions for 24 h unless otherwise specified.
3.6 Final measurements
The closures shall be examined for water penetration and shall be visually inspected and optically measured as well as mechanically checked as required by the relevant specification.
4 Apparatus
The apparatus consists of either a water tank or a pressure water chamber in accordance with IEC 60068-2-17. test Of.
When a tank is used, the specified head of water shall be measured above the highest point of the specimen.
When a high-pressure water chamber is used, the water pressure shall be adjusted to the pressure difference in Table 1,
5 Severity
The severity consists of the height of water and test duration (See Tables 1 and 2).
